This is pretty common, as brand new sheets, and in particular Giza Egyptian Cotton sheets, often initially feel scratchy or stiff due to the treatments used in the manufacturing process.

If your sheets are organic or Oeko-Tex certified, like ours, you can rest assured this won't cause you any harm other than the fabric initially feeling a bit stiff. Washing and use will soften sheets with time, but you can speed up the process.

From Scratchy to Soft: 1. Get rid of fabric softener, as it works by coating the fibers, reducing breathability and degrading the fibers over time. 2. Use a good quality, gentle detergent, but use less than the recommended dose to avoid a build-up that contributes to stiffness. 3. Add a cup of baking soda to the first wash, and use 1/2 cup with every subsequent wash. 4. Add 1/2 to 1 cup of plain white vinegar to the fabric softener compartment of the machine with every wash, as it helps neutralize detergent residues. 5. Use dryer balls or clean tennis balls in the dryer to help soften the fabric.
